Whew!! 2016 has been a whirlwind of activity here at The Needle Bug! Callaway Gardens and the Annual Bug Retreat were both smashing successes.
Now March is here with notable holidays and we have canvases available for both of these events. Curtis Boehringer has several canvases in his Trunk Show that are reminiscent of Saint Patrick himself and they lend themselves to wonderful embellishments.
Another Trunk Show, by designer Machelle Somerville, has an adorable, Peep style, bunny who looks like great fun to stitch! Fibers, stitches and embellishments galore are all possibilities with this canvas. And what a huggable shaped pillow it would be for a little one!
Also coming up is the annual Stitch In, March 17-20. Bring your own canvas, or pick up a new one, and stitch away with friends. This is a wonderful opportunity to finish up on some projects or begin new ones, plus you have all the materials you might need at hand. Come make some new friends while stitching!!

In the first class of the Back to Basics The Right Way series, Tony shows the student the correct way of stitching to improve needlepoint techniques. Included in the session are a discussion of essential tools, easy and proper ways to thread a needle, beginning and ending threads, how to mount the canvas on the stretcher bars (and why to use them), compensation and other techniques. Stitches covered include diagonal stitches, line stitches, crossed stitches, tied stitches, and plaited stitches. Other stitching includes filling patterns, knots, Bokhara couching, canvas appliqué, and traditional canvas appliqué slip.
As always, Tony's Tenets are an integral part of the class.

So April 15th was the day we had to have our taxes done. Thank goodness I am not under that kind of pressure to finish my needlepoint pieces! I would be in big trouble. We all have projects we have started and not quite completed yet. I said when I started to needlepoint that I was not going to fall into the pit of not finishing things that I started. Well, ha ha, I jumped in feet first!! It's o.k. though, unless it is December and I wanted that ornament for a gift!! I don't know about you, but when I started needlepointing I had no idea about the deadlines for finishing. Make sure to check with us about our finishing deadlines so that you can get your treasures back when you need them!

"Over the Top"
There's so much you can do to add the "wow factor" to your canvas. This class is all about the stuff - you know, all the cool materials to add to your canvas but you have no idea how to use them. Some will go on top of your stitches and some will actually become the stitches. Learn to use materials that will add sparkle and dimension, create stumpwork, deconstruct some of your favorite threads to make them take on a completely different look, and attach embellishments and everyday objects to add that extra interest to your canvas.
Class fee includes 8 x 12 canvas.
Student to provide stretcher bars.
1pm until 4pm
"What the Heck do I do with this?"
We've all seen them. Multi-colored and overdyed threads that look really fun but you have no idea how they would ever work on a needlepoint canvas. Some are subtle, some, not so much. The key is to look at those threads in terms of stitches that celebrate and make the most of them. Some work, some don't. This class is all about exploring those gorgeous overdyes, how to handle them and stitch with them to add interest to your canvas. Once you know how to use overdyes, you'll find you've entered a new world of color and possibility.
Class fee includes 8 x 12 canvas.
Student to provide stretcher bars.
Taking both classes?
Take $15 dollars off....$135 for both!
Lunch Boxes $10
