Mark Craddock's "Weird Beards & Beading Techniques" (1 day)

WEIRD BEARDS – Ever been stuck trying to figure out how to choose just the right beard for the Santa that you are stitching? The trim of a coat? How to get animal fur just right? This class explores more than fifty techniques for matching the hair and beard to the canvas that you have chosen. Modern or traditional, simple or jazzy – we have you covered. A discussion of fibers and materials currently available. Includes a booklet with fifty ideas for your beards and even more for fur and animals. Fifty stitched beards are available for you to see, and you will stitch nine techniques onto a sample canvas which allows for a hands-on experience.
Bring canvases that you are working on for suggestions

BEADING TECHNIQUES – Want to improve on your current beading methods? Would you like to learn more about ideas and techniques for attaching beads to your canvas? What threads to use and how they affect the colour of you beads? This class will cover simple bead attachments such as basketweave and reverse basketweave, in line beading, couching bead strands, brick beading, bead cascades, “messy” beading, etc. We will learn about stitches that can incorporate beads and the best ways to attach them to match the stitch. We will also cover proper methods for attaching gems, sequins, decorative beads and even jewelry to the canvas. Finally, we will talk about the variety of beading needles and threads that are on the market.

*Please bring stash of suggested threads (listed below), beads #11 & #14, sequins, beading thread, tapestry needles and beading needles
